Our History

The Faribault County Fair in Minnesota boasts a rich history dating back to the mid-19th century. The inaugural fair was held on October 5, 1859, in Winnebago City, just four years after the county’s establishment in 1855. At that time, the county’s population was estimated at 1,500 residents. Over the years, the fair has evolved into a cherished annual event, reflecting the county’s agricultural heritage and community spirit. Today, it takes place in Blue Earth, the county seat, and features a variety of attractions, including livestock exhibitions, arts and horticulture displays, and grandstand events.

The Faribault County Historical Society plays a significant role in preserving and showcasing the fair’s history. Located in Blue Earth, the society operates a historical village at the fairgrounds, offering visitors a glimpse into the county’s past through artifacts, photographs, and exhibits highlighting rural life and development.
